Before the speech, a cohort of financiers from bulge-bracket banks, hedge funds, and NYC city government chatted amongst each other. With the backdrop of a civil suit brought on by the SEC against Goldman Sachs, executives from Goldman Sachs engaged cheerfully with attendees. Goldman Sachs CEO, Lloyd Blankfein, along with the firm’s President and COO, Gary Cohn, and ex-Goldman Sachs Partner, Marc Spilker, who left the firm in February chatted about the regulation and the economy. Noticeably absent, were the executives from other banks like Citigroup and Morgan Stanley which recently posted strong quarterly earnings numbers this week.
